This piece is an antique late 19th-century Victorian silver-plated child’s mug/cup manufactured by the Derby Silver Co. (Shelton/Birmingham, CT).
Made of quadruple silver plate, the silver layer has heavily worn down over time to reveal a dark, rich gray pewter-tone patina. It features a unique segmented/ribbed handle and a hand-cut olive leaf and berry vine border around the upper rim.
A hand-etched scene depicting four young children in Victorian attire holding hands and dancing in a circle (Ring Around the Rosie / Ring Dance) under an etched banner that reads "Clement" with decorative flourishes.
Front Surface (Main Etchings):
"Clement": Hand-scripted name etched in calligraphic cursive across the front beside the dancing children.
Monogram / Symbol: A stylized Gothic monogram letter "P" etched near the dancing children.
"Pond": Scripted name etched vertically near the base on the right side.
Base Markings (Bottom Stamping & Engravings):
Maker's Mark: Stamped circular logo reading "DERBY SILVER CO. / QUADRUPLE PLATE" surrounding an anchor emblem, along with the item pattern number "67".
Hand-Scratched Inscription: "3/10/84 Born" — Engraved by hand on the underside, indicating a birth date of March 10, 1884.
